KEM Shrine Potato Bowl Parade
KEM SHRINE POTATO BOWL PARADE ROUTE CHANGES BACK TO UNIVERSITY AVENUE
For the second time in three years the KEM Shrine Potato Bowl Parade will move from downtown Grand Forks-East Grand Forks to a route along University Avenue east of the campus. On both occasions the change was made because of construction work on a bridge. In 2015 the Sorlie Bridge downtown was undergoing renovation which restricted its width. This year Potato Bowl Parade organizers were not able to obtain a permit from East Grand Forks city officials because of their concern of the extra traffic the Sorlie Bridge is handling while the Kennedy Bridge on Gateway Drive (US Hwy 2) undergoes major renovations. The Kennedy Bridge renovation is a two year project but no decision on the parade route has yet been made for 2018.
This year’s parade is scheduled for 10:00 AM on September 9th. It will start on University Avenue one block west of North Washington (N 14th St) and end one block east of Columbia Road on the UND Campus (N 26th St).
The KEM Shrine has also announced a major new co-sponsor of the parade this year, Opp Construction of Grand Forks.
